The firm practices exclusively in the area of family and matrimonial law. The firm does not accept cases that fall under the jurisdiction of any court other the South Carolina Family Court. The list that follows provides a general breakdown of the types of cases handled by the firm:

  • Divorce: The firm represents husbands or wives in actions brought in family court seeking dissolution of the martial union. The firm is experienced in handling divorce actions involving allegations of marital misconduct giving rise to fault-based grounds for divorce, as well as those in which no fault is alleged.
  • Separation: The firm represents spouses who are separated from one another or who are planning or considering separation. This includes the negotiating, drafting and processing of separation agreements between spouses, as well as the handling of complex contested actions for separate support and maintenance and related relief.
  • Child Custody: The firm has extensive experience representing fathers, mothers and third parties seeking legal and physical custody of minor children. The firm handles both contested and uncontested custody actions. Some custody actions are pursued in conjunction with divorce or separation litigation. Other actions involve a parent or third party seeking modification of an existing custody order. In addition, the firm represents parents who seek enforcement of an existing custody order that has been violated by another party.
  • Visitation: The firm assists clients in the negotiation, structuring or litigation of cases involving the visitation rights of the noncustodial parent. In addition, the firm represents parties seeking modification or enforcement of existing visitation schedules.
  • Child Support: the firm handles all types of child support cases, including paternity actions, child support modification actions, and child support enforcement actions. The firm also deals with child support matters incident to pending divorce or separation litigation.
  • Spousal Support and Alimony: The firm represents spouses seeking alimony or defending alimony requests incident to ongoing divorce or separation litigation. The firm also represents parties seeking modification or termination of existing alimony orders, as well as parties defending such actions. The firm also represents spouses pursuing or defending actions for enforcement of existing alimony orders.
  • Property and Debt Division: The firm assists parties in the identification, valuation, apportionment and distribution of assets, including real property, financial assets (i.e. bank accounts, investment holdings and retirement plans), business interests and tangible personal property. The firm assists clients in structuring final property settlement agreements, as well as litigating these issues for judicial determination.
  • Premarital Agreements: The firm negotiates and drafts Premarital Agreements (also known as Prenuptial or Antenuptial Agreements) on behalf of clients.
  • Adoptions: The firm handles certain types of adoption actions.
